Snøhetta (Norwegian pronunciation: [ˈsnøːˌhɛtɑ]) has grown to become one of the most internationally renowned architecture and design practices globally, with more than 350 employees from around 40 different nations and nine studios across the globe. The practice began as a collaborative architectural and landscape workshop in 1989 and has remained true to its multi-disciplinary way of thinking until this day. Since its inception Snøhetta’s most important project has remained Snøhetta, to ensure its relevance for the future. As a result, in addition to architecture, landscape and interior, Snøhetta has over time introduced specialised graphic, digital and product design disciplines to enhance its capabilities and reach. These disciplines act at the forefront of sustainable and social innovation. In this talk, Marius Myking, Director of Product Design at Snøhetta will demonstrate how by leveraging the accumulated knowledge and experience at Snøhetta, strategic design connects industry, technology, markets and brands with future opportunities and targets. Myking will showcase one of the recents results of this – Forite – a series of recycled glass tiles made from components found in discarded electronic waste – which as been nominated for the Scandinavian Design Awards.
